As legally regulated healthcare professionals, Chiropractors must undertake at least 30 hours of additional learning per year (CPD), of which half must be spent learning with others. This enables us to improve our skills and provide better care.
Here are some of the courses that Ben Gait (our resident Doctor of Chiropractic) found particularly useful:
- Rationale and protocols for assessing and managing issues in the upper extremity. A hands-on, course, revising theory and practical care of shoulder, elbow and wrist problems. Ben also learnt a new approach to treating “Frozen Shoulder” aka adhesive capsulitis. This is a painful, chronic condition. Ben’s clients/ patients have enjoyed the results!
- Afferentology Conference (Functional Muscle Testing). Ben spent a day teaching and learning with some of the world’s leading practitioners at this international event. It was a great way to sharpen his diagnosis and treatment skills. Afferentology applies careful muscle testing techniques to assess, and correct faults that affect how our bodies work. We get great feedback from our clients by using this approach because targeting the cause of a problem tends to bring improvement. Sounds obvious doesn’t it?! But many approaches (pills, creams, massage etc,) often get a bit stuck by trying to calm the symptom, leaving the cause to fester.
- Nutrition for musculoskeletal health. This little course by the College of Chiropractors reviewed evidence and guidance. Did you know that Vitamin C is important for helping with collagen and bone repair? And that when we exercise, the physical stress draws necessary nutrients to the area – this is the “metabolic window” and why consuming protein after exercise is particularly useful.
Ben is also engaged in a long-running, epic nutrition course atm, as many of our guests discover – because proper healing needs a holistic approach.
